An astrophoto of Jupiter. In order to get an image of planets that appear very bright and very tiny, a powerful magnifier — such as the 26-inch telescope at Badlands Observatory — is used. Thousands of video frames are captured with the best 5-10% stacked to result in a final image. That stacked image is then meticulously adjusted with software to increase contrast, color and detail.Â
